Caramelized Onion Flatbread

This easy flatbread recipe is perfect for a quick and simple weeknight meal. The onions are caramelized to perfection and add a delicious sweetness to the bread. You can top the flatbread with your favorite toppings, or just enjoy it plain. Either way, it's sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough
  • 2 med onions, sliced thin
  • ¼ pound bacon, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 oz Mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 2.5 oz can of sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup cut fresh Basil leaves
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F. Grease a pizza pan, or set a pizza stone on the middle rack of the oven.
  • Cook the diced bacon in a heavy skillet until half crisp. Then add in the thin sliced onions and the slivered garlic. Cook until the onions are tender, translucent, and fragrant. Remove from heat.

  • Shape the pizza dough to fit the stone or the pan. If cooking on a stone, prepare the dough on wax paper on a cutting board, so you can easily slide it onto the stone to bake.

  • Drizzle the prepared pizza dough with the olive oil. Spread the caramelized onion and bacon mixture evenly over the dough. Add the grated mozzarella cheese, the basil leaves, and the black olives.

  • Transfer to pizza stone, or put pizza pan in the hot oven. Bake for 14 minutes, checking at 12 minutes. Remove from oven when browned and crisp on the edges. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you are in a hurry, use a premade pizza dough ball.
  • Use a pizza stone for a nice crisp bottom crust.
