Ingredients

  • cup Cocoa powder unsweetened
  • cup Flour all purpose
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cup Butter unsalted
  • ½ cup Shortening
  • ¾ cup Sugar
  • cup Brown sugar packed, light or dark
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup Chocolate chips milk or semi-sweet
  • cup Reese's Pieces reserve some for cookie tops

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and cocoa powder together. Either sift the cocoa to break up lumps, or use the back of a spoon to break the lumps up.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in Reese's Pieces candy, reserving a few tablespoons for later for the cookie tops.
  • Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets.
  • Decorate cookie tops with three different color Reese's Pieces peanut butter candies.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are set. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  • Do not over bake the cookies, or they will be hard.
  • Reese's Pieces candy can be substituted with other types of candy, such as chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or M&M's.
  • Reserve ¼ cup of the Reese's Pieces for decorating the tops of each cookie.
