How to Air Fry Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

This recipe for air fryer bacon wrapped asparagus is simple to follow and can be made in just a few minutes. Plus, it's perfect for any occasion – from a casual get-together with friends to a more formal dinner party.

    Step 1. Prepare the Asparagus

Rinse off the asparagus and trim the woody ends off each asparagus spear. Cut to fit the air fryer basket. Pat the asparagus dry with paper towels.

Place the asparagus spears in a medium sized bowl and drizzle with some olive oil. Sprinkle some salt, garlic powder, and cracked pepper on them. Toss the asparagus spears so that they are all coated with olive oil and seasoning.

Step 2. Wrap the Asparagus into Bundles

Divide the spears into groups of three spears. There should be enough for 6 to 8 bundles. Take a strip of bacon and wrap it around each bundle. Repeat for each bundle. Sprinkle some fresh ground pepper on them.

Step 3. Place Bundles into the Air Fryer

Place the asparagus bundles in your air fryer. You can lay them directly in the basket, or for easier clean up, use a small pan that fits the air fryer basket. I use a small round rack to lift the small pan up so the circulating air still gets underneath. This method eliminates having to clean the entire basket.

Don't crowd the bundles in the air fryer basket. You will need to cook in two batches.

Step 4. Air Fry and Serve

Air Fry at 350 F for 10 minutes, or until the bacon is cooked to how crisp you like it. Depending on your air fryer and bacon thickness, the time could be more or less, so check on the first batch after 8 minutes. You can also turn the bundles to even out the browning.

    Substitutions

You can use Prosciutto instead of bacon if you really want to get fancy!

    Variations

Turkey Bacon is a leaner alternative to regular bacon. If you decide to turkey bacon wrapped asparagus, be sure to brush the bacon bundles with a light amount of olive oil. Turkey bacon has so little fat that it can dry out very quickly. The light brush of olive oil prevents that. Follow the same recipe directions otherwise. Other variations are:

    • Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Chicken - Use boneless chicken tenders and wrap thin sliced bacon around the strips. Brush with olive oil and season with your favorite seasoning. Air fry at 400 F for 8 minutes.
    • Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Shrimp - Soak skewers in water for 30 minutes. Skewer 4 large shrimps that are de-veined. Wrap thin sliced bacon around them on the skewer. Set in the air fryer at 350 for 6 minutes.
    • Air Fryer Bacon-Wrapped Scallops - Wrap large sea scallops with strips of bacon around the circumference. Season with Old Bay seasoning and air fry at 350 F for 5 to 6 minutes.
    • Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Dates - Stuff Mejool dates with a sweetened cream cheese mixture. Wrap with thin sliced bacon, and air fry for 6 minutes.

    Equipment

A nice size air fryer will let you make this recipe in two batches. I can recommend the following.

    • Nuwave 6 quart Air Fryer

    Storage

Wrap up any leftover air fried asparagus bundles and set them in the refrigerator. You can reheat them in the air fryer on a lower setting and wrapped in aluminum foil.

    Tips for Success

    • Don't just snap the asparagus where the hard wood gets tender. Cut them to fit the air fryer basket.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you freeze air fried bacon wrapped asparagus?

Yes, cover in a freezer safe container. To reheat, wrap in foil and place in the air fryer for 5 minutes.

Can I air fryer other bacon wrapped vegetables?

Yes, try cutting zucchini or yellow squash in long, 1" thick strips, the length of the squash. Wrap with the bacon and air fry.
