Ingredients for a Teppanyaki Grill
If you make the teppanyaki grilling sauce up ahead of time the flavors will blend together even better. Better yet, you can also use it as a marinade for the steak for even more deliciousness!
Grilling Teppanyaki Sauce
- Soy sauce
- Water
- Light brown sugar
- Rice Wine (or Sake`)
- Honey
- Cornstarch
- Ginger - Fresh, grated.
- Sesame oil
- Garlic - Fresh, grated.
PRO TIP: Freeze the fresh ginger. This makes it SO much easier to grate! The woody, pulpy ginger grates on a micro-planer like butter!
For The Beef Teppanyaki
- Ribeye Steaks - Or any steak cut you prefer.
- Broccoli Florets - Cut into smaller portions.
- Onion - Yellow or white onion, sliced thin.
- Green Onions - Cut into 2" lengths.
- Garlic - Cloves of fresh garlic, slivered.
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Red Pepper Flakes - Optional, great if you like a bit of extra spice.

How to Make Beef Teppanyaki & Veggies
You can use store bought soy based teppanyaki grilling sauce, or you can make your own for this Blackstone teppanyaki recipe. This grilling sauce is savory-sweet and is great as a basting sauce or marinade.
Prepare Homemade Teppanyaki Grilling Sauce
- Combine all the ingredients except for the water and cornstarch in a microwave safe bowl.
- Whisk to combine and microwave for 1 minute. Remove from microwave and whisk again.
- Dissolve the cornstarch into the water to make a slurry. Whisk into the bowl of sauce. Microwave for 3 minutes, stirring with the whisk halfway through. Use right away as sauce or marinade, or store in the refrigerator.
Season The Ribeye Steak
Use your favorite steak cut, which for me is a well marbled ribeye. Some other steak options include:
- Chuck Eye Steak (Delmonico). A low-cost alternative to the Rib Eye Steak.
- Flat Iron Steak. Extremely tender, well-marbled and flavorful and great for grilling.
- Denver Steaks. Affordable, lean and versatile.
- Season the steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, or marinate in a zipper storage bag with a few tablespoons of the teppanyaki grilling sauce 30 minutes to 12 hours prior to grilling.
Prepare The Broccoli and Onions
- Slice the onion, cut the green onion into 2" lengths, sliver the garlic, and cut the broccoli florets into smaller pieces.
Sear Steak and Veggies On The Blackstone
- Heat the Blackstone griddle to medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil to the griddle.
- Add the steaks to the Blackstone with a brushing of the teppanyaki sauce. Plan to sear about 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium rare.
PRO TIP: For more spice, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the steaks.
- Add the broccoli florets, onions, and slivered garlic to the griddle to the side of the steaks.
- Continue to cook both steaks and vegetables until cooked to preferred doneness.
Slice Beef Teppanyaki Steak and Serve
- Cut each steak down the middle lengthwise, then cut into ¾" strips cross wise.
- Transfer to plates with portions of the sauteed broccoli and onions, and serve with hot fried or steamed white rice. Serve this steak teppanyaki recipe immediately while hot.
