How To Make The TikTok Green Goddess Salad
So, as you can see from my adapted TikTok Green Goddess salad recipe, I am not a vegan, and I am allergic to Walnuts. Yep, allergic to walnuts, so I typically substitute pecans.
Prepare The Chopped Cabbage Salad base
- Dice up both the cabbage and the cucumber. I recommend the English, or Armenian 'burpless' type of cucumber. These are the long skinny ones that come wrapped in plastic.
They have fewer seeds, and because of that have a longer shelf life after diced. If you use regular cucumbers, be sure to seed them.
Add The Onions
- Slice up the bunch of green onions finely. Then, using scissors (it's just SO much easier) slice up the chives.
I use herb mincing scissors, they are amazing.
Make The Green Goddess Salad Dressing
- Add the TikTok Green Goddess salad dressing ingredients to a mini food processor, or a blender. Start with the liquids first, then the shallot, spinach, basil, Parmesan, and the nuts. Add the salt last.
Dress The Salad
- Pour the Green Goddess salad dressing directly onto the bowl of chopped cabbage, cucumber, onions, and chives.
- Give it a nice mix or tossing, and serve immediately.
- Garnish with toasted croutons, or candied pecans.
Serving Suggestions
This TikTok Green Goddess salad has no mayonnaise in it, making it a safe salad for outdoor picnics or barbecues during the summer. Serve as a side dish to any main dish like Country Style Boneless Pork Ribs, Smoked Brisket Flat, or Broiled Chicken Thighs

Substitutions
- Substitute nutritional yeast if you want to make this as the original version of the TikTok Green Goddess Salad. This salad was originally developed for a vegan diet, so Parmesan cheese was replaced with nutritional yeast.
- You can also use Walnuts like the original also, the substitution will not really alter the taste at all.
Variations
This TikTok Green Goddess salad dressing is also an excellent dip for veggies or crackers! Just pour into a bowl and you have a Green Goddess Dip!
Storage Options
- Cover leftovers and refrigerate for no more than 24 to 36 hours if you have already poured the dressing on the entire chopped salad. The dressing will wilt the cucumber if you store longer.
- For longer storage, keep the Green Goddess dressing separate until ready to serve or eat. If taking to work, store the dressing in a separate container.
Tips for Success
- If chopping up a head of cabbage daunts you, purchase shredded cabbage that is sold in the bag. It is not quite the same texture, but it is a HUGE time saver!
- Make the salad dressing up and keep it separate until ready to serve. This is helpful for picnics, potlucks, holiday gatherings, etc.
- Try the salad dressing as a Green Goddess Dip for a table of crackers, cheese, and vegetables.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cucumbers are the weakest link in this salad, as they are the most perishable of all the ingredients. You can store this Green Goddess Salad for up to 36 hours. The cucumbers start to to wilt and get watery after that point. You will have eaten it all by then though, guaranteed!
