    Ingredients

Creamy or crunchy peanut butter, that is the only question you have to deice on the ingredients! Either will be delicious for the peanut butter brownie layer.

When mixing both the peanut butter brownie layer and the chocolate brownie layer, mix in the flour just until it is mixed and now dry flour streaks show. This way you won't over mix and have cakey brownies.

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies

Who can resist a rich, gooey pan of layered peanut butter chocolate brownies? With only 10 minutes prep time required and no fancy techniques necessary, they're simple enough for beginners while still delivering an impressive result.

Make the Peanut Butter Brownie Layer

    1. Preheat the oven to 350° and line an 9" x 9" baking pan with parchment paper with overhang for lifting out later, or spray with non stick cooking spray.
    2. Mix all the ingredients for the Peanut Butter Brownie layer, except for the flour and baking powder, in a mixing bowl.
    3. Lightly fold in the flour, just until mixed. Don't over mix! Spread the Peanut Butter brownie batter in the pan, spreading it out evenly.

    Top With The Brownie Batter

    1. Mix all the ingredients for the chocolate brownie layer in a large mixing bowl, adding in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt last.
    2. Lightly fold the flour and cocoa until just mixed. Don't over mix, or the brownies would turn out cakey.
    3. Top the Peanut Butter brownie layer with the Chocolate Brownie batter, spreading it out evenly over the peanut butter layer.

    Variations

You can make a few variations with this chocolate peanut butter recipe. See the ideas below:

    • Swirled Peanut Butter & Chocolate Brownies - Spread the chocolate brownie batter in the pan first, then dollop the peanut butter brownie batter on top. Using a butter knife, pull the dollops of peanut butter batter up and down the pan to swirl into the chocolate brownie batter!

    Equipment

Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. Below are some of my favorite pieces of equipment that I use when making this dish.

    9" x 9" Square Baking Pan

    Storage

Store chocolate peanut butter brownies in an air tight plastic storage container at room temperature to keep fresh. You can refrigerate them or freeze them also.

    Tips for Success

    • The easiest way to bake these brownies fit the baking pan with parchment paper with a generous overhang. This way, once you remove the pan of brownies and let them cool, you can lift them out with the paper overhang. No more digging out brownies, and every one of them will be perfectly cut.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What makes brownies more fudgy?

Fudgy brownies have more fat than cakey brownies. Cakey brownies have more flour also. The amount of sugar and eggs does not change whether you're making fudgy or cakey though.

Does the toothpick trick work for brownies?

Only for cakey brownies, you remove from the oven when the toothpick comes out clean. BUT, for fudgy brownies, you bake them for time specified, remove and let finish cooking as they cool. This is what gives them the fudgy texture.

    Food Safety

    • Do not use the same utensils on cooked food, that previously touched raw meat
    • Wash hands after touching raw meat
    • Don't leave food sitting out at room temperature for extended periods
    • Never leave cooking food unattended
    • Use oils with high smoking point to avoid harmful compounds
    • Always have good ventilation when using a gas stove
