  • Store bought White frosting, or our Easy Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Powdered sugar

How to Make Mummy Brownies

Start with a fresh baked 9 x 13" brownie batch of brownies, You can use a box mix for a 9 x 13" pan our our 9 x 13 Brownies with Cream Cheese Recipe. The boxed brownie mix is a fast and easy option! Cut the brownies into 12 bars.

Mix up the Frosting

If you don't want to use store bought frosting, we have a fantastic Easy Cream Cheese Frosting recipe to use instead!

  • Combine the frosting with the additional powdered sugar and mix well. This will ensure the frosting stays firm on the brownies.

PRO TIP: Adding some powdered sugar to the store bought frosting will stiffen it up and allow it to harden better. It will also be the 'glue' that allows the eyeballs to stay put and not fall off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I freeze these decorated brownies?

Yes, freeze them spread out on a cookie sheet first, then stack them in a container with a sheet of wax paper separating any layers you make. Defrost them in a single layer on your kitchen counter. They may get condensation as they defrost, but just let them sit until it evaporates. They will be just like fresh made!

  • Wash hands after touching raw meat

Ingredients

  • 1 Brownie Mix
  • 1 tub Cream Cheese Frosting
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Candy eyeballs
US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Prepare the brownies as directed on the box, or use our Dairy Free Brownies. lf you line your pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil it will allow you to lift the baked brownies right out of the pan.
    1 Brownie Mix
  • After the brownie cooled, place them in a freezer for 30 minutes. Remove them and then cut them into 12 bars. The freezer time is optional, but allows for a cleaner cut with fudgy brownies.
  • Empty the tub of Cream Cheese frosting into a bowl and mix in the powdered sugar. Alternatively, you can make your own frosting using our Easy Cream Cheese Frosting recipe.
1 tub Cream Cheese Frosting, ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Fill a piping bag with the frosting and cut a small hole at the bottom of the bag. Make this first cut very small. You will use it to make small dots to glue 2 eyeballs on each cut brownie. Put a small dot on the back of each eyeball, and set down on the brownie to stick in place.
  • Make another cut on the bag, so the hole is slightly larger. Pipe lines across and diagonally on the brownies, so that the eyeballs peep out between the lines. Make it looks like a messy bandage wrap. You can sprinkle a few Halloween colored candy sequins on the serving platter and brownies for special effects also!
    Candy eyeballs
  • The brownies are ready to serve, but if you let them sit for 30 minutes or so, the frosting will set up a little and the eyeballs will be secure. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to not over bake the brownies if you make them from scratch or a mix.
  • Save time and use a good brownie mix!
  • Save time and use store bought frosting.
  • Have fun!
