Spooky Apple Slices Ingredients
Green granny smith apples look striking with the lavender or orange Spooky Monster eyeball theme! Any apples will work of course, but be sure and get a Halloween sprinkles blend for the decorations.
You can use coconut oil, cocoa butter, or candy making paramount crystals to thin out the melting candy wafers. This prevents the wafers from seizing when heated in the microwave also.
- Granny Smith apples
- Popsicle sticks or candy apple sticks (they are round with points for easier insertion).
- Lavender Wilton Candy Melts
- Halloween blend of sprinkles or sprinkle mix
- Paramount crystals for thinning the candy melts. You can also use coconut oil or coconut butter.

How To Make Candy Apple Slices
- Prepare your apples by washing them to remove any wax.
- Slice them into ½" thick slices. You will get about 3 to 4 per apple. Discard the heals (the bits of round at each side of the apple after cutting the slices).
Melt The Candy Wafer
- If you are using a microwave, put the candy wafer in a microwave safe bowl. Make sure you have room to stir and not slop it out. Microwave for 1 minute and then stir.
- Add either a tablespoon of the Paramount crystals, coconut oil, or cocoa butter. Any of three will work. Microwave again in 30 second intervals, stirring well after each session. The candy will thin out and have some fluidity.
PRO TIP: You should only need about 3 to 4 microwave sessions. Make sure to not over heat. If you do, the candy will stiffen, or 'seize'. If your candy wafer seize do NOT add water! Add another tablespoon of the Paramount crystals, coconut oil, or cocoa butter. Stir well until it thins back out.
Insert The Popsicle Sticks
- Pat dry each apple slice with a paper towel. Using a sharp paring knife, make a small slit at the bottom of each apple slice. Stick a Popsicle stick, or candy apple stick, into the slit of each apple. Remove any seeds that are visible.
- Spread the apple sticks out on a parchment lined baking tray. Gather your melted candy wafers and your bowl of Halloween candy sprinkles.
Spread The Candy On The Apples
- Using a soup or tablespoon, spread a heaping dollop of melted candy on an apple slice. Use the back of the spoon to spread it out to cover the raw apple surface.
Decorate The Apple Slices
- While the melted candy is still hot, scatter the sprinkle on the top of the melted candy.
- Place the tray of candy apple slices in the refrigerator to set up.
Serving Suggestions
Remove from the refrigerator after an hour, and set out on your party table. Candy Apple Slices are best made just prior to serving, as they will only keep for about 1 day.

Variations
You can change up the color of your apples, candy wafers, and sprinkles to make Candy Apple Slices for any Holiday. Here are a few combinations to get you started:

- Christmas Grinch Candy Apple Slices - Granny Smith apples, red candy wafers, and lime green or white candy sprinkles.
- Turtle Candy Apple Slices - Use milk chocolate candy wafers instead of the lavender ones. Additionally, melt some caramels. Spread the chocolate first, let it set up a few minutes, then add some melted caramel. Last, top off with some chopped pecans.
Equipment
You will need a few candy making specialty supplies. A candy melter will prevent overheating your candy wafer, but it is not required.
