Substitutions
You can use any type of cured ham, but a pre sliced one lets you drizzle the glaze in between the slices prior to marinating. This helps the smokey bourbon and maple flavors seep into the meat faster.
Variations
You can omit the little bit of Dijon mustard, or add garlic instead. If your bourbon doesn't have the smoked maple notes, just simply add ¼ teaspoon of liquid smoke.
Equipment
A deep bowl that lets your ham press the marinade up and around the meat is important. A baking dish that is suitable for serving is also great to have, but you can also bake the ham in a cast iron skillet and then transfer to a serving platter.
