Ninja Foodi Whole Chicken Ingredients

It used to be cheaper to roast whole chickens, until the rotisserie chicken appeared in grocery stores. However, with grocery stores raising prices, it's now again cheaper to roast your own whole chickens!

With just a counter top Ninja Foodi convection oven style air fryer, and a few simple ingredients, it will have your whole family chowing down on perfectly cooked rotisserie-style meals with minimal effort.

Buy your whole chicken fryers when they're on sale and freeze them. Set them in the sink the night before so they will be thawed and ready to air fry in the morning.

  • Chicken - Whole fryer chicken, about 4 to 5 lbs.
  • Olive oil
  • Onion powder - Or granules.
  • Garlic powder - Or granules.
  • Smoked paprika
  • Thyme - Dried.
  • Sage - Rubbed or cut leaf.
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

How to Roast A Whole Chicken In Ninja Foodie

This simple kitchen appliance offers a fool-proof way for you to enjoy delicious, juicy roasted chicken without spending hours prepping in the kitchen.

Follow our step by step tutorial below on how to make the most flavorful and succulent Ninja Foodi whole roasted chicken! You won't want to buy grocery store rotisserie chickens again!

Season The Whole Chicken

  1. Remove the pieces of chicken inside the cavity and either discard or save or making chicken stock. Rinse the chicken well, and pat dry.

  2. Prepare the air fryer slide in basket tray with non stick cooking spray.

  3. Brush or rub olive oil all over the chicken. Mix the spices and seasonings together in a small bowl, then generously apply rub all over the entire chicken. Reserve a teaspoon of rub for later.

Roast, Starting Breast Side Down

  1. For the most succulent, juicy chicken, position the seasoned whole chicken breast side down on the air fryer roasting tray.

  2. Slide the tray into the Ninja Foodi oven and cook at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.

  3. Carefully pull the tray out and flip the chicken so it's now breast side up. and season with the teaspoon of rub mixture reserved earlier.

  4. Cook chicken for another 20 to 30 minutes, or until an instant read thermometer inserted in a thigh reaches 170 degrees F.

Remove and Rest

  1. Once the thigh meat reaches 170 degrees F, remove the chicken from the Ninja Foodi convection oven. Allow whole roasted chicken to rest before carving for 5 to 10 minutes, to let the juices redistribute.

  2. Transfer Ninja Foodie whole chicken to a platter and carve at the table, or carve the chicken first and then platter it.

  • You can remove the cooked chicken from the carcass or leave as is and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • You can also freeze the cooked chicken for up to 3 months.
  • To reheat the chicken, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator and then reheat in the Ninja Foodi or microwave until heated through.

Tips for Success

  • If you don't have a Ninja Foodi convection oven air fryer, you can also make this recipe in a traditional oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and roast the chicken for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you want to add more flavor to the chicken, you can stuff it with herbs and vegetables, such as lemon slices, garlic cloves, or carrots.
  • The chicken carcass makes amazing chicken stock, at a fraction of what store bought costs.

Ingredients

  • 4.5 lb whole chicken Whole fryer chicken
  • 2 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder Or granules
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder Or granules
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme Dried
  • 1 teaspoon Sage Rubbed or cut leaf
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions

  • Prepare the air fryer slide in basket tray with non stick cooking spray.

  • For the most succulent, juicy chicken, position the seasoned whole chicken breast side down on the air fryer roasting tray.
  • Slide the tray into the Ninja Foodi oven and cook at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
  • Carefully pull the tray out and flip the chicken so it's now breast side up. and season with the teaspoon of rub mixture reserved earlier.
  • Cook chicken for another 20 to 30 minutes, or until an instant read thermometer inserted in a thigh reaches 170 degrees F.
  • Once the thigh meat reaches 170 degrees F, remove the chicken from the Ninja Foodi convection oven. Allow whole roasted chicken to rest before carving for 5 to 10 minutes, to let the juices redistribute.
  • Transfer Ninja Foodie whole chicken to a platter and carve at the table, or carve the chicken first and then platter it.

  • If you don't have a Ninja Foodi convection oven air fryer, you can also make this recipe in a traditional oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and roast the chicken for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
