How to cook corn on cob in a pressure cooker

Pressure cooking corn on the cob is very easy, and it actually takes longer to prepare the corn than to cook it! Which is such a time saver compared to waiting for a huge pot of water to boil!

Husk and clean the fresh corn

    1. You will husk the fresh corn and rinse any silk off of it. Leave the ends on the ears of corn. Place them with the fat ends on the bottom of the Instant Pot unless you are using a steam basket.

Load the Instant Pot and set the cook time

    1. Add the water after putting the corn on the cob in the Instant Pot or programmed pressure cooker. Set the time or program on the cooker.
    2. Check to make sure all ears fit within the Instant Pot. Place lid on and close, setting valve to "pressurize". It will take 5 to 10 minutes for pressure to build up before the cook count down starts. The Instant Pot will beep when the cook time is complete.

    Depressurize and serve

    1. Do not immediately release pressure. Let sit for 5 minutes first, then carefully move the vent from Pressure to Vent. After steam releases, open the lid and remove the corn on the cob. Serve immediately.

    Serving suggestions

    Equipment

    • Instant Pot (or any Pre Programmed Pressure Cooker)

The Instant Pot, or pre programmed pressure cooker allows you to process foods in a shorter time frame. With corn on the cob, pressurized steam takes the place of a huge pot of boiling water. You can simply pop the corn in, set the cook time, and within minutes your corn on the cob is ready for the table!

    Top Tips

    • Buy the freshest corn you can find. The kernels should be rounded and not caved in or wrinkled.
    • Use a damp cloth and water to brush the husked corn to wipe away the wispy silk threads.
    • Don't cut the stalk ends off until after the cook time. Put them in the pot so the stalk ends touch the instant pot, not the top ends of the corn cob.

    Frequently asked questions

Can cook frozen corn in the Instant Pot?

Yes, Instant Pot frozen corn on the cob is just as easy as fresh. Add an extra 2 minutes cook time and follow the rest of the cooking directions.

Can I freeze left over cooked fresh ears of corn?

Yes, place in a ziploc or freezer safe container and freeze up to 3 months.

    • Add the water and secure the lid. Set the valve to seal/pressure.
      1 ½ cups water
    • Set the cook time to Manual, high pressure, for 2 minutes. Or use the Steam program and set the time for 2 minutes. The Instant Pot will take 5 to 10 minutes to build up pressure, then the cook time will start counting down. When finished cooking, it will beep.
    • Wait 5 minutes for the Instant Pot to naturally depressurize. After 5 minutes turn the valve to Vent to finish depressurizing quickly. Keep away from the steam as it releases.
    • Open the lid when it unlocks and remove the ears of corn on the cob. Serve with butter immediately.

    Notes

    • Ears of corn can be large, so to cook full size ears you will need a 6 quart or 8 quart Instant Pot.
    • If using a smaller Instant Pot, cut the ears of corn in half.
