You will want some thin cut pork chops, and a package of Shake n Bake for pork chops. One packet of coating will be enough for about 4 large pork chops that are about ¾" - 1" thick.

  • Pork Chops - Four ¾" - 1" thick bone in, or boneless pork chops.
  • Shake n Bake - get the Pork seasoned or Panko flavor variety. Panko Shake n Bake makes an even crispier air fried pork chop.
  • Olive Oil

How to Air Fry Shake and Bake Pork Chops

Most basket type of air fryers don't have a preheat setting, and preheating is optional. If you have a drop down door or swing door style of air fryer, go ahead and preheat it to 400F. For a basket air fryer, must turn it on for 2 minutes before using.

Wash and Pat Dry Pork Chops

  1. Rinse the pork chops after removing them from the package. This insures there are no loose bone fragments from when the butcher cut them. Pat them lightly with some paper towels.

Coat Pork Chops with Shake and Bake

  1. Empty an envelope of the Shake and Bake into a shallow bowl.

  2. Brush some olive oil lightly on each side of the pork chops.

  3. Place each pork chop in the bowl of Shake and Bake, turning to coat both sides. Repeat for all four pork chops.

PRO TIP: Using a shallow bowl for coating the pork chops ensures a more even coating on both sides. Shake n Bake comes with a plastic bag also though, and you can place the pork chops individually in the bag and shake to coat instead, if you prefer.

Air Fry Shake and Bake Pork Chops

  1. Place the coated pork chops on the basket rack of the air fryer, and air fry at 400F for 12 to 15 minutes, turning the chops after 7 minutes.

PRO TIP: For super crispy Shake n Bake pork chops, make sure to brush the patted dry pork chops with olive oil. Also, press the coating mixture on the meat when coating each side. Gently place on the air fryer basket in a single layer so that there is convection flow of hot air all round each pork chop.

How Long Do You Cook Shake n Bake Pork Chops In the Air Fryer?

  1. The pork chops are cooked when your thermometer registers 145F and the juices run clear. A ThermoPro or similar prong thermometer makes it easy to check!

  2. Transfer the air fryer Shake and Bake pork chops from the air fryer to a platter and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. See below for some great serving ideas to go with these scrumptious pork chops.

PRO TIP: For Shake n Bake pork chops over 1" thick, add one extra minute to each side when air frying. Check with the ThermoPro thermometer before taking them out to serve also.

Equipment

Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. Below are some of my favorite pieces of types of air fryers and equipment when making this recipe.

  • Nuwave Air Fryer 15 quart
  • Nuwave 6 quart Air Fryer
  • Gourmia Digital Air Fryer 6 quart
  • ThermoPro Thermometer

Storage

Store any left over air fryer pork chops in a covered container. They will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat these pork chops, pop back in the air fryer at 350F for about 5 minutes. They will be heated and still crispy.

Tips for Success

  • Lightly brush the olive oil on the rinsed and patted dry pork chops. This ensures the Shake and Bake coating sticks.
  • Don't over lap the breaded pork chops in the air fryer, keep them in a single layer.
  • Be sure to use a thermometer to make sure the internal temperature of the pork chops has reached 145F, you don't want to consume under cooked pork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my pork chops tough in the air fryer?

If your pork chops are tough, it is probably because you overcooked them. Use the ThermoPro thermometer to insure you remove the chops when they reach 145F.

Which is better: bone-in VS boneless ?

Bone-in pork chops have more flavor because they are fattier. Boneless are firm, and can be easily overcooked.

Can I use a different cut of pork?

Yes, you can slice a pork tenderloin into 1" slices, coat with Shake n Bake, and air fry just like making air fryer Shake an Bake pork chops.

Is it better to cook pork chops at 350F or 400F?

The USDA recommends cooking at 375-400 degrees F, with higher temperatures delivering a delicious golden crust. Also, the temperature and cooking variance between air fryers will dictate if you need to lower the temperature from 400F to 375F.

Is Air fryer Shake and bake pork chops better than frying?

Air Fryer Shake and Bake pork chops are healthier than fried pork chops because you use less oil.
